Early Intervention for Young Children
We wanted to share with you a new website resource on early intervention with children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other disabilities: aackids.psu.edu
This provides guidelines for early intervention to maximize the language and communication development of young children with complex communication needs.

Teens: Cast Your @15 Votes Through October to Support PACER’s Bullying Prevention Programs
Best Buy’s @15 Change Exchange program has included PACER as a nonprofit partner. Teens’ votes determine what percentage of $250,000 PACER’s bullying prevention programs will receive. Here’s how it works: Teens age 13 to 18 can go to at15.com, where they register, earn points in various ways (1,500 points just for registering!), then click on the “@15 Change Exchange” section of the Web site to give their points to one or more of the four charity partners listed-including PACER’s new TeensAgainstBullying.org Web site. Tell teens you know throughout the country to sign up now and pass the word! Teens can earn more points for PACER’s bullying prevention programs when they refer a friend to the site. NEW! “Connecting the Power of Audio Books Players with Accessible Educational Content”
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (AARA) prompted HumanWare to develop an Assistive Technologies Resource Guide to aid special educators and administrators in “Matching Assistive Technologies with Learning Goals.” Released in May 2009, the response to this resource guide has been very positive and we were encouraged to create a similar guide focused on technology for students with print and learning disabilities.
“Assistive Technologies that Support Learning Goals: Connecting the Power of Audio Book Players with Accessible Educational and Recreational Content” is now available free of charge. Continue reading…

Hud to Offer Housing Assistance to 4,000 Americans with Disabilities
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today joined President Obama’s commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Olmstead decision by announcing that it will offer rental assistance to 4,000 non-elderly families with disabilities, including 1,000 vouchers specifically targeted to those transitioning out of nursing homes and other care facilities. Through its funding notice, HUD is seeking comment from public housing authorities and others to ensure this critically needed assistance is distributed and administered in the most effective manner possible.
